HIGHLIGHTS: CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE

In 1917, Modigliani had a son by his French-Canadian girlfriend Simone Thirioux and the following year he had a daughter by his French girlfriend Jeanne Hébuterne. Not coincidentally, children became one of the artist's primary subjects in this period. In these poignant portraits, Modigliani gives children a monumentality, grandeur and nobility previously seen only in the portraiture of royalty, politicians and businessmen.
