PABLO
RUIZ PICASSO (1881-1973)
Spanish
artist who co-invented Cubism. He revolutionized art by moving beyond
naturalistic and realistic depictions, giving artists freedom unbound
by observed reality.
He
knew Modigliani from the Italian's arrival in Paris in 1906 and
they exhibited together in several group exhibitions. Picasso had
a Modigliani in his personal collection, which is featured in this
exhibition. According to his personal physician, Picasso spoke Modigliani's
name on his deathbed in 1973. |
